Terms of service
Last updated 19 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between Slate (“we”) and the company that signs up for Slate (“you”). By creating an account or using Slate, you accept them on behalf of your company.
The service
Slate is a hosted HR and payroll application. We provide it “as is” and improve it over time; features may change, but we will not remove a core function you are paying for without notice.
Your account
- The person who signs up confirms they are authorised to bind the company.
- You are responsible for the users you invite and for keeping credentials secure.
- You are responsible for the data you enter and for having a lawful basis to process your employees' personal data.
Payroll and statutory outputs
Slate calculates pay, deductions and statutory contributions using the rates and settings held in your account. Slate ships with default rates, but you are responsible for checking that rates, slabs and employee details are correct for your company, and for reviewing payroll before finalising it and statutory files before filing them. Slate does not provide legal, tax or accounting advice.
Trials, plans and payment
- Each plan includes a free trial. At the end of the trial, access is paused unless you subscribe.
- Fees are as shown on the pricing page or agreed in writing, in Indian rupees and exclusive of GST.
- Plan limits (such as the number of employees) apply; we may ask you to move to a suitable plan if you exceed them.
- Refunds and cancellations follow our Refund & cancellation policy.
Acceptable use
Don't use Slate to break the law, to process data you have no right to process, to attempt to access other customers' data, or to interfere with the service.
Your data
You own your data. We process it as described in our Privacy policy. You can request an export while your account is active and for a limited period after it ends.
Availability and liability
We work to keep Slate available and back it up nightly, but we don't guarantee it will be uninterrupted. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the three months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses.
Ending the agreement
You can stop using Slate at any time. We may suspend or end an account for non-payment or a serious breach of these terms, after notice where reasonable.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the competent courts in India.
